Rewind: Vol. 2

This week on Free's World........

Not much went down this week. Too Short dropped in and played his new joint. Marques Houston did the same, but by phone. His song was a Free's World exclusive and featured Young Joc. Avant came through and spoke about his album, The Director, his son, his writing process, and his endeavors in the reality business.

Tuesday marked the 4 year anniversary of the passing of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez. In her memory, a special dedication was made at the end of the show. Along with that, T-Boz called in to explain what exactly she does on the anniversary of her friend's death. She also talked about her album, which actually hasn't been started yet. Lisa's sister, Raindrop, came through on Friday to thank Free for the dedication made to Left Eye.

Field Mob were surprise guests during one of the shows and they talked about their upcoming album entitled "Light Poles and Pine Trees" and some of the songs featured on the CD. "Blacker The Berry" speaks of Smoke's struggle with having dark skin as a child. Smoke tried to say he was the darkest person in the room, but Free reassured him that he wasn't saying that there was a "shadow" behind him aka Chaka Zulu. LOL. There's also a track called "Baby Bend Over," which is for all the women with large behinds. That interview was just crazy from top to bottom.

While the above was all fine and dandy, Free said something on Friday's show that should make the majority of us quite happy. Near the end of the show, she shouted out her MySpace page and said........................................that this weekend she was going to put up a "record" for us to hear. So make sure you keep it locked to Free's page for what's really good. I don't know about you, but I am highly excited about hearing some new material from Ms. Freedom herself.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I know I will. For right now, I'm so gone.

All I Got

I'm going crazy looking for this AT&T commercial. I finally found something, but unfortunately, it's not the commercial, only a picture. I did find out that it's called "Robot" though. If anyone on the west coast can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, the picture is on the left. Enjoy!

Rewind

I've decided to start doing weekly recaps of Free's World, so welcome to the first edition of "Rewind."

Ciara and producers Tim and Bob both checked in by phone. Ciara spoke about her new album, which she is recording in L.A., and her song with Field Mob, "So What." Tim and Bob showed Free a lot of love and played a new song by Chico, who I think plays Spencer on UPN's Half and Half.

LeToya Luckett stopped by the show on Wednesday and discussed her break from Destiny's Child, her new album, boutique, and her 2 main goals in life: be on the Arsenio Hall Show and be interviewed by Free and AJ on the "red couch." Ironically, LeToya's video debuted on 106 the very same day she sat down to talk with Free. Another Free's World exclusive was delivered called "She Don't." As LeToya was about to bounce, she mentioned Free's potential boot line and long awaited album. Free said that she's trying to get the business side of the shoe thing worked out, but she's still looking for a record label. *Sigh* Anyway......

Lil' Fizz, formerly of B2K, dropped through to present his new joint, "Fluid." Free came up with 4 ideas for Fizz to make a million dollars in 30 days. There was bug spray, soda, work out tape, and condoms. Free asked Cudda Love what he thought of the condom idea and he said it was cool. Fizz said it was a good idea because he's always stealing condoms from Cudda anyway. That whole segment was crazy.

At the end of the show, Free, Eric Cubiche, and K-Sly were clowning on each other. They were saying that Free had a date because she was putting on lip gloss as she was getting ready to leave. She said she wakes up that way and they were like, "Does that mean there's someone there when you wake up?" Free told K "Single" Sly to stop hating and they started asking if she was single. Free said that she was in fact single. Eric asked her if she dated one of the Ying Yang Twins and she said that she and D Roc dated for a whole 30 minutes. Then Eric said that was how Free got on the remix to "Wait." Free said that just means that she was the best girl to ever whisper in his ear.

Speaking of "Wait," Free performed her verse at the Key Club earlier this week with D Roc of the Ying Yang Twins during a Bubba Sparx show. Appartently, D Roc was trying to perform the song, but the club didn't have the record. So, Free headed to the stage, not without protection though. She enlisted the help of fellow radio DJ, Mo' Dav, to stand behind her to make sure she made it to the stage with all hands off. Mo' Dav said it was cool at first until he got took by about 20 dudes trying to get at Free. Regardless, she made it to the stage and I heard her performance was crazy hot. People were calling up the station after the show to talk about her doing her thing.

Master P made a quick stop to talk with Free about the supposed beef between Romeo and Bow Wow, Dancing With the Stars, and Hurricane Katrina. Afterwards, Anthony Hamilton called in to talk about his concert with Heather Headley and Van Hunt and a surprising fact was revealed: Free has written a song for Anthony called "Weather Resistant." He said it's a really beautiful song and
it might make his upcoming album.

Ray J called in during the week, but I, unfortunately, didn't catch that segment. Well, that about wraps it up for this week. Holla atcha folks soon.

P.S. I've updated my MySpace. It's not just a blank page anymore so drop through for me.

Free Friday

Okay, for those of you who missed it, Free's first week on the air ended with a crazy surprise.

Free was interviewing a pastor for Easter Sunday when all of a sudden Jamie Foxx crashed the show with a bottle of Cristal. He said it was to "celebrate Easter" but after the pastor left he said it was to welcome Free to L.A. The deal was that Free and Jamie had to drink the whole bottle by the time the show was over. She sure enough was sippin' and slurpin' on that Cristal. You could hear her trying to get the last drops in her glass. And FYI, they did in fact finish the bottle by the close of the show.

You could tell from jump they were happy to see each other. Jamie said Free was what L.A. needed, some energy and beauty. He also commented on BET's Talent Search saying, "BET searched the whole country looking for someone to fill your shoes and they couldn't do it. You are unique."

Free got Jamie a little gift, which turned out to be a piano. It was funny as hell the way she presented it to him. Monday, it had wrapping paper on it. Tuesday, it had a little bit left. Then she just decided to give it to him like that. I think he really enjoyed the present, he said it was hot and started playing the beat to Blackstreet's "Don't Leave Me."

They played "U Still Got It" featuring Common and Jamie said that since Free is in L.A. now, she can drop a quick 8 on the song from a female's point of view and she said that she was down with the idea.

Time was running out quickly, but Jamie and Free just kept on chillin' with each other: drinking and talking. Jamie spoke about his run ins with soon-to-be famous artists like T.I. and E-40, both of which he told would never make it. Obviously, the opposite ended up happening, so what did he say to Free? "Free, you're never going to make it." I know it sounds bad, but that's not what he meant by any means.
Jamie brought an exclusive record featuring LL Cool J that NO ONE has heard, not even his record company. So, we got our first Free's World exclusive.

Jamie got upset with Free's PA because he was asking him "silly" questions. He said he already knew Free and he didn't need to answer questions like, "How do you feel about Free?" I swear that sh*t was hilarious. He also told Free that he wouldn't hit on her anymore, depending on what she was wearing or unless she wanted him to. There were so many funny moments during the show, I really hope you caught it for yourself.

The interview was so crazy that Free's World spilled over into the next hour! Free's World is virtually 106 & Park on the air. Anything can happen.

Jamie said he's gonna come every other Friday, so make sure you check for the "Bonnie and Clyde" of radio (according to Jamie) every other Friday. With that being said, I was thinking of setting up the chat I was talking about before for next Friday, April 28.

First Day of School

I think Free did great on her first day on 100.3 The Beat. Here are some pictures from that very special day. Shouts out to Lady In Pink for the pics.

*I know I'm kinda slow with these, but I'm trying to work out some technical difficulities that I'm having. Just give me a little bit of time. Anyway, I was thinking of having a chat sometime during one of Free's shows. Tell me what you think. And..........I'm gone.

Phenomenal Woman

This is a page taken from the blog of a former 100.3 The Beat DJ and producer/song writer, PJ Butta. He holds down Butta's Bootlegs and works with the Avila Brothers, a crazy talented group that both produces and sings. I was speechless when I read this. Really, what more can I say? Just read.

3.31.06 Free Dinner

Had dinner with Free (yes the Free formerly of 106 & Park and soon to be afternoon drive DJ on The Beat). We met to talk about music... not my blogs. I've always been a fan of the stuff I've heard her sing and rap on and I was curious why she didn't have an album out? I wanted to know her plans music wise. Was she gonna come out? And if she wasn't... I wanted to convince her she should.

Let me first off say Free is the most sweetest, down-to-earth, humble person you would ever meet.

Free in many ways is a lot like me and that's why we hit it off so well. Usually first encounters are weird and uncomfortable but it was like we were old friends. And she felt comfortable too because she let me hear her music... something she revealed to me that "no one has ever heard." So I was honored and privileged that she would let me hear her stuff. Cause as artists... we can become neurotic. We're perfectionists and are always looking for validation that our art is "good enough." And being a songwriter and a perfectionist I understand how she feels.

Free's music... her own material and stuff she has written is phenomenal. I told her I was mad at her because she doesn't have a record out. She is what's missing in Hip Hop... and in music. She can sing and spit. She can fill the void of Lauryn Hill and take the baton from Missy. That's how dope she is. And that's why I met with her. She is what music needs right now. And if you read my previous blogs... you know me and the Avila Brothers have been looking for that female. I think the musical marriage between her and us can be something magical. And I hope this time... she'll let the WHOLE world hear her music.

100% Genuine

I haven't been around for awhile due to various things, but I'm back in full effect so.........

Free's OFFICIAL MySpace page has been discovered by none other than Braveheart aka IceCity (Yeah, I know who you are:) and I am more than grateful. Thank you so much. This time you can tell it's the realy McCoy because Free actually has a couple of blog entries on there that tell us some info about what she's been up to. Unseen pictures (Thomasina) are also up there for your viewing pleasure. All I can say is I'm really excited about what she's been up to and about to do. She plans on keeping us updated on what's going on with her and it sounds like a lot. The comments left for her are crazy nice and she's had over 11,341 views to her page. "Keep it locked" both here and Free's MySpace page for the latest info.

*You thought I wasn't going to give you the address, didn't you? LOL. I'm just playing, here you go and while you're at it, hit mine up too. I don't have any friends yet. Sad, I know.
